A story of the decade

When the TODAY show decided to showcase the Top 10 stories that generated the most buzz since 2000, the story of West Virginia native, former Army Private First Class, and first Prisoner of War to be rescued since World War II, Jessica Lynch immediately made the list.

Captured in the first days of the Iraq war, Jessica was riding in a maintenance convoy when Iraqi forces ambushed. The ambush left 11 dead while Jessica, five other soldiers and two marines were separately taken as prisoners. For nine days, Jessica was held in an Iraqi hospital before being rescued on April 1, 2003 by U.S. Special Forces.

This week during the live television interview with TODAY show co-host Meredith Vieira, Jessica discussed her life, the birth of her daughter and how she hopes to be remembered.

Aly Goodwin Gregg, CRA senior vice president, serves as Jessica's publicist coordinating all media interviews and speaking engagements and public appearances.
